Vito chose the profession of cooking for passion but also for tradition.
Vito was raised in southern Italy, in the agrarian region of La Basilicata, in a small agricultural village, steeped with history and tradition. One of the youngest sons of a large family of 12, his earliest memories are those of watching his mother cook numerous traditional Italian dishes which are still seen on the Vito's menu today.
This long-standing tradition of the culinary art that is still so strong among Italian families and Vito's interest in all aspects of Italian cuisine, convinced him to pursue this interest by enrolling in a renowned catering school in the town of Sorrento, on the world-famous Amalfi coast.
After receiving his cooking diploma, he then excersized his profession in a few restaurants and hotels around Italy, namely the Great Lakes. He has a special fondness for his time in Stresa on the Lake Maggiore.
Vito's appreciation for great hotels and restaurants brought him to London in his late-20s where he worked in the kitchens of many internationally renowned hotels. After many years as head chef in a well established restaurant in the Kensington area, he finally took the leap and 10 years ago, opened his very own restaurant that stands before you today, Vito’s.
Vito now enjoys a quiet life with his wife and daughter, happy to bring a part of southern Italy to London.
